My name is Emma Johnson, and I am the owner of the Wentworth Retreat. I am a registered and qualified veterinary nurse with over 24 years of experience. I was previously the Head nurse for Fitzpatrick Referrals for 10 years, an Orthopaedic and Neurology Veterinary Hospital. I managed a team of 80 veterinary nurses and auxiliaries and would oversee the care of over 60 patients at any one time. It was from here my passion for post operative care began and my idea of starting my own business caring for animals on a day to day basis grew. In October 2015 The Wentworth Retreat was born.
I began pursuing a career in veterinary nursing in 1996, during this time I developed many nursing interests in a variety of disciplines. This included anaesthesia, pain management and post operative care. In 2001 I qualified as a Veterinary nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and went on to successfully gain my Assessor Qualification. This gave me the opportunity to support and guide undergraduate veterinary nurses of the future during their three year training programme.
I am always striving to be the best i can be and continue to pursue my own professional development where in 2008 i was awarded the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons 'Advanced Nursing Diploma in Medical Nursing' and subsequently achieved the 'Royal Veterinary College Graduate Diploma in Professional and Clinical Veterinary Nursing' in 2012.
I have a diploma in canine grooming gained from the centre of excellence, completed in 2018. I then went on to complete a 2 year level 4 diploma in canine advanced behavior from the British college of canine studies, completed 2021. I am currently undertaking a level 6 advanced physio diploma at the college of animal physiotherapy
My passion to develop my own and my team of nurses’ skills and training, to promote the awareness of the Registered Veterinary Nurse status within the veterinary profession overall led to my appointment in 2014 as a Regional Coordinator for Veterinary Nurse Training in Surrey with the British Veterinary Nursing Association. I fulfilled the requirements of this role voluntarily and dedicated my own personal time.
I currently have two dogs so understand how much care goes into maintaining their health. Most importantly I know how important they are to your family and will always treat each and every pet in my care as if they were my own.
